In January 2023, SDC published the Sevenoaks Urban Area Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan. The plan contains details of the proposed Primary and Secondary cycle network in the Sevenoaks Urban Area, which includes Oak Lane, Ashgrove Road and SoleFields Road as Primary routes and Brittains Lane as a Secondary route.

Traffic in Ashgrove Road and Oak Lane
The roads which are trafficked the most in our residents’ association area are Ashgrove Road and Oak Lane, with the junction between these two roads and Brittains Lane experiencing congestion at peak times – during school drop-off and pick-up times, as shown in images below.

Ashgrove Road is defined as an ‘informal lane’ with an ‘informal rural character’. Its narrowness represents its character, and it is unified by the verdant landscape framework and the discrete appearance of buildings. The road operates as a single lane with no formal passing points and has poor forward visibility, and gradient variations. It currently has an excellent safety record that needs to be maintained, bearing in mind that only collisions resulting in personal injuries are recorded (no data available for near misses or collisions with no person injuries).
Oak Lane is a two-way single carriageway road and is generally wider than Ashgrove Road, mainly providing sufficient width for two-way traffic movements along its entire length north-east from the Ashgrove Road / Brittains Lane junction (Cross Keys) to the A225 High Street, but with some sections heading south-west from the junction, most notably adjacent to the field, where the carriageway width is limited and where it operates as a single lane.
The Association collected traffic data in Nov 2022 in Ashgrove Road and at the junction of Ashgrove Road with Oak Lane, to determine the traffic volumes as speeds.
The results of the traffic surveys are displayed in the graphs and figures below.
