14-acre piece of ancient woodland for sale - Action required before 23 February 2024

Sevenoaks Town Council has informed us that:

A 14-acre piece of ancient woodland that borders the top of Silly Charles Lane and the footpath that ends up at Gracious Lane / links to Sevenoaks Common, has come up for sale – please see the map below. The Town Council has already registered the woodland as an Asset of Community Value.

The Town Council would like to see this piece of ancient woodland (which is believed to pre-date Sevenoaks) protected, and access for public usage improved. The Town Council has managed to allocate £100,000 of the required £200,000 which includes the proposed purchase price as well as improvements to access and information. STC would thereafter be responsible for all tree maintenance etc.

It is therefore seeking pledges of support from the community, either by way of funding or In Kind. The deadline is 23rd February 2024, so that the Town Council can review and make a decision on 26th February 2024.

You can complete the Pledge Form online via the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GQWMMZ8 or download it from here.

For background information on the registering of Longspring Woods as an Asset of Community Value, please view this Press Release, published 19th December 2023.

Clearly, if the Council is successful, it will not only help preserve this important historical woodland but also make development in close proximity to it more difficult.
